A host of St Ives swimmers achieved a plethora of lifetime best swim times following a 'successful' showing at March Malins Swimming Club's Fenland Open Meet.

St Ives Swimming Club (SISC) took 31 of their junior swimmers to compete in the meet in Whittlesey on Sunday (May 28).

Up against more than 10 swimming clubs across Cambridgeshire, several fourth and sixth-placed finishes were achieved alongside the lifetime best swim times, with some events featuring more than 70 swimmers.

A spokesperson for SICC said: "The coaches and team managers are exceptionally proud of everyone's focus, commitment, determination and outright achievement at this open meet."

The SISC swimmers competed in various disciplines, including freestyle, butterfly, breaststroke, backstroke and individual medley.

Lifetime best swims were achieved by Soufian Abdelrazek, Layla Burdett, Ross Burdett, Flo Taylor, Georgina Cowens, Toby Dollard, Owen Dollard, Harry Burgess, Belle Taylor, Elizabeth Savory, Sophie Savage, Noah Savage, Sophie Jones, Toby Jones, Emma Winter, Euan Winter, Jack Ballester, Elizabeth Ballester.

The competition acted as good preparation for the club ahead of a full and comprehensive swimming programme in June, with three separate swimming events all taking place in St Ives.

The first event is the third round of the Junior Fenland Open Meet on June 10, followed by the first round of SISC Champs on June 17, and the first round of the Senior Fenland Meet on June 24.
