Children and staff at Somersham Primary School are celebrating receiving a glowing Ofsted report in which they achieved an 'Outstanding' rating.

The school had been previously rated 'Inadequate' in a 2018 inspection, which the school say highlights its "incredible progress".

The school joined Cambridge Primary Education Trust (CPET) after this inspection in 2019 and is now part of the Meridian Trust after CPET merged with Cambridge Meridian Academies to become Meridian Trust in April 2022.

Jonathan Clarke, headteacher at Somersham Primary School, said: "I am absolutely delighted with this Ofsted report, which epitomises all the hard work our staff, children, parents and Academy Council have put in.

"Here at Somersham Primary School, we provide our children with a high-quality learning environment allowing them to flourish.

"We are all very pleased that the report celebrates the great progress that the children and school have made."

The school was rated 'Outstanding' in all five key areas, including the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management and early years provision.

Inspectors had visited the school from September 12-13 and in the report said: "This is a school that inspires pupils to achieve more than they think is possible."

Behaviour was of particular focus, with inspectors commenting that "pupils are always respectful, polite and considerate towards everyone in school" and that they behave "impeccably" both in lessons and at playtime.

Children at the school were highlighted as getting off to an "exceptionally" strong start in the reception class, and the school was commended for creating an inspiring learning environment.

Additionally, the report praised the school on its support for children with special educational needs: "The provision for pupils with SEND is highly effective. The school ensures that pupils with SEND receive appropriate and timely support."
