Vital knife crime prevention event held in Huntingdon

The event was held in Huntingdon over the weekend and was part of Cambridgeshire Constabulary's Youth Engagement Day.

Fifty young people from various community groups attended the event at the Constabulary's headquarters, and it is hoped they will return to their communities and be ambassadors for knife crime prevention.

Detective Chief Superintendent John Massey said: "I'd like to thank everyone who made this event possible.

"It's vital that we engage with young people from the county about this incredibly important issue."

The day included scenario-based activities involving the dog and armed policing unit and discussing topics such as joint enterprise.

Joint enterprise is a concept in law, meaning that a person can be found guilty of murder, even if they were not the person who struck the fatal blow.

This applies if the individual was part of the situation and supported the group's activity somehow.

Mr Masey added: "The young people were enthusiastic and engaged with the content. We hope they will take these important messages back to their classrooms and colleges to spread the word and help us make the county even safer.

"Tackling serious street-based violence is a priority for the Constabulary.

"We're working hard to address the issue in a number of ways, including community engagement events such as this."
