Years 5 and 6 pupils from primary schools across Huntingdonshire have taken part in the Hunts School Sports Partnership's (HSSP) Quadkids athletics competition.

More than 350 pupils from 22 schools formed 36 teams at the competition, which was hosted at One Leisure St Ives Outdoor Centre on June 6 and split into a morning and afternoon event.

A spokesperson for HSSP said: "The weather was fantastic throughout the event, helping the 36 teams to enjoy a great day of athletics.

"The team spirit and determination was amazing throughout the day, exemplified during the sprint races when the children, sports leaders and parents cheered every runner over the finish line."

Quadkids Athletics is a team-based competition with four boys and four girls, each competing in four disciplines: a long distance (600m) run, a 75m sprint, a vortex throw and a standing long jump.

All competitor's scores are amalgamated, resulting in a team score.

Crosshall Junior School A, St Neots, won the large school competition, with Brampton Village Primary School coming second, and St Helen's Primary School, Bluntisham, won the small school competition, with Middlefield Primary Academy, St Neots, finishing runners-up.

For the individual awards, the overall highest-scoring boy was Luke from Thorndown Primary School, and the highest-scoring girl was Yulia from Crosshall Junior School.

The event was supported by Sports Leaders from Longsands Academy, St Ivo Academy and Hinchingbrooke School, who all helped encourage every child on in all the events, especially around the track, ensuring the event was a success.
