St Neots' own amateur theatre group, St Neots Players, has won the prestigious Best Drama category at the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) East Annual Awards Ceremony.

St Neots Players were honoured with the award for last year's production of Gaslight and received their accolade on April 16 at a ceremony in Stevenage.

The NODA award recognises dramatic societies in District Four South (4s) which covers amateur dramatic groups across Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire, acknowledging excellence in the theatrical world.

Leading actress Abbie Lathwell said: "I am so proud of the cast and crew of Gaslight, which is a very intense and challenging production to stage, so to win the NODA award for Best Drama felt like the best kind of acknowledgement of everyone's hard work."

St Neots players put on three performances of Gaslight at the Priory Centre from September 22-24 last year.

Gaslight told the story of a married couple in 1880s London, with the husband determined to drive his wife insane by dismissing her feelings and questioning her memory.

It's a "dark story" about coercive control and where the modern-day phrase 'gaslighting' comes from.

Director, Isobella Coleman, said: "Gaslight is a play that has transcended time in that the moral of the story is as relevant today as it was when first written.

"The cast and I felt a responsibility to deliver on the many challenges the play presented. The whole team worked so hard on this production, and we feel immensely proud to be the winner of the NODA Best Drama Award in District 4s."

Isobella and Abbie are set to reunite in the St Neots Players' forthcoming production of Dial M for Murder, a classic thriller which was popularised due to Alfred Hitchcock's film in 1954.

Both added that they hope the people of St Neots will support the production, which promises lots of suspense and thrills, at the Priory Centre from Thursday, May 18 to Saturday, May 20.
