The Yellow Bird Deli is the latest addition to the picturesque High Street in Kimbolton and The Hunts Post is offering one reader the chance to win a pair of tickets to the venue’s new Supper Club.

The business is run by Aidy and Caroline Coveney who have upped sticks from their marital home in Yorkshire to return to Cambridgeshire, where they have both previously lived, in order to fulfil their dream of opening a deli.

Before meeting in 2013, both had aspirations of opening a catering business. Aidy spent many years working as a chef, training in some of the best restaurants in Cambridgeshire and beyond. These included the Michelin star rated Midsummer House in Cambridge and the Bib Gourmand standard Pheasant in Keyston; he also learnt his pastry skills at the 5-star rated hotel Grosvenor House in Mayfair. Caroline in turn was living in London, honing her baking and immersing herself into the capital’s café and pop-up restaurant culture, dreaming of a day when she could open her very own cafe.

Both put the dreams aside to pursue careers in nursing, but after getting married last year, they decided to take the plunge and opened the Yellow Bird Deli in May this year.

Despite Aidy’s top training, you won’t find any unnecessary grandiose descriptions or pretentious food at the Yellow Bird. Their ethos is to use simple yet top quality ingredients in their menu, as well as the produce they sell, combined with excellent service.

“With nearly everything on their menu made from scratch, from the meat pies and quiches to the chocolate profiteroles and lemon tarts, the deli has already proven a hit with the locals,” Aidy.

“A hugely popular addition has been the ready meals which are dishes we cook from scratch using organic ingredients that are then frozen, all ready for the customer to simply heat up at home. These include staples such as shepherds pie and chili con carne, as well as more adventurous options such as sea bass and prawn curry.”

The Yellow Bird Deli also provides outside catering, as well as monthly Supper Clubs on the premises.
