A LIVELY and exciting musical spectacular featuring a flying house and a melting witch is being presented in a circus big top in St Neots.

Two St Neots-based theatre groups, VAMPS and ShowBiz Express Productions have joined together to bring a touring big top production of The Wizard of Oz to the town.

The show has been billed as one of the town’s largest production and most exciting shows and is taking place on the Common from November 11-14.

Ian Worsfold, VAMPS chairman, said this is going to be a “theatrical sceptical like you’ve never seen before”.

He said: “It has been such an exciting rehearsal process listening to all the plans to fly people and objects all over the place and melting the witch with big explosions. This really is a first. With special effects and professional direction this trip down the yellow brick road is set to be the best!”

The show will include purpose build equipment to fly the witches and a host of special effects allowing audiences to witness objects flying above their heads.

In addition to well-known VAMPS members the 50-strong cast will include new faces including 21-year-old Emma Evans of Biggleswade who will play Dorothy.

Popular songs to feature in the production include Over the Rainbow, Follow the Yellow Brick Road and Merry Old Land of Oz.

Tom Langdale, the shows director and choreographer, said: “This is my way of pushing the boundaries of local entertainment. I want the town to be excited to see the show. I want them to get good value for money and come not just because they are supporting local arts but because the show is going to be a huge treat for the whole family!”

He added: “The enchanting venue will add to the magic of this revolutionary performance that will leave audiences feeling like they have been caught in a storm and landed in Oz. They will see, smell and hear Oz as never before.”
