AN award-winning theatre group will be bringing a classic love tale to life on stage in St Neots next week.

St Neots Players will be staging Jane Eyre at the town’s Priory Centre from Thursday, September 16 to Saturday, September 18 at 7.30pm.

The play has been adapted by Charles Vance and is on Charlotte Bronte’s Victorian novel.

This period drama tells the story of a mistreated orphan girl called Jane (played by Abbie Miles) who learns to survive by relying on her independence and intelligence.

Her first job is governess to the ward of Mr Rochester (played by Ian Francis), who is a man of many secrets.

The tentative trust between Jane and Mr Rochester slowly develops into romance but their hopes of happiness is jeopardised by a terrible secret.

Director Marina Coleman-Rivers said: “Jane Eyre is one of my favourite stories. It is a true literary classic. It is a great honour to be entrusted with directing a show of this nature and I hope to be able to bring my passion for the story through in the production.”

She added: “We have a strong cast who I know will put on a wonderful performance that is packed with emotion.”

St Neots Players were originally formed in the late 1920s as a play-reading group. Over the years they have grown to offer a platform to aspiring actors and actresses and perform three plays a year.

The group is award-winning, having won the 2008 NODA Eastern Region District One Best Drama and Best Production awards for The Crucible.
