Huntingdon Drama Club’s summer production is the gripping World War Two drama Breaking the Code and tickets are on sale now. The Hunts Post also has a pair of tickets to give away for the play which runs from July 23- 25 at the Commemoration Hall, Huntingdon.

Alan Turing, the computer science pioneer and code-breaker, was famously recruited by the Government Code & Cypher School at Bletchley Park in Buckinghamshire to help crack the ‘unbreakable’ German Enigma code. Historians believe the work he carried out helped shorten the war by up to four years, saving millions of lives. After the war Turing worked at Manchester University, developing the first stored-program computers. In 1952 he was prosecuted for indecency and he took his own life at the age of 41. Despite the countless lives he saved during the war, he did not receive a posthumus royal pardon until 2013.

Huntingdon Drama Club’s production is being directed by Dean Laccohee and features several drama club regulars.

“There’s been a renewed interest in the life of Alan Turing and the work of the war-time code-breakers, following the release of the movie The Imitation Game and the re-opening of the Bletchley Park site last year following its multi-million pound restoration project,” Dean told The Hunts Post.

“This year also marks the 70th anniversary of VE Day, so we felt the time was right to present this play.

“Nathanael Spalding will take on the role of Alan Turing and there are debut performances for the club from Ben Pereira, Harrison Lake, Guido Paoluzi Cusani and Ryan Laccohee. The cast also features club regulars Scott Hutchison, Ann Monk and Sharon Reed.”
