A space mission leads to a terrifying encounter in Ridley Scott’s extraordinary return to science fiction.

In the late 21st century, a team led by archaeologist Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) discovers a 35,000 year-old cave painting on the Isle of Skye.

It matches images drawn by other, unconnected early civilisations showing a distinctive star system.

Shaw interprets this as an invitation, so a spacecraft is launched.

After two years in cryogenic suspension, the crew awake above their target planet to be addressed by a hologram of billionaire backer Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce). Among them are Shaw, business-like Weyland Corporation rep Meredith Vickers (Charlize Theron), advanced android David (Michael Fassbender) and Captain Janek (Idris Elba). But they’re about to come face-to-face with a threat to the very future of mankind.

Blade Runner director Sir Ridley Scott’s brilliant return to the genre in which he made his name is a very loose prequel to his original 1979 Alien.
