HUNTINGDON’S gala community event – the Riverside Gala – takes place on Saturday (June 9) providing the people of the town with music, demonstrations, dance displays and family fun.

One of the main attractions is likely to be the Wood Green Novelty Dog Show, sponsored by Burgess Pet Care, which will have various categories – from best puppy, prettiest bitch and best rescue dog, through to scruffiest mutt and the dog the judge would most like to take home.

Dog owners will have the chance to find out how clever (or not!) their pooch is. As well as organising a dog show, Wood Green, the Animals Charity, will be testing man’s best friend to see if they have the skills to graduate from its manners school.

The charity will teach owners and their dogs the key to having a well behaved, happy pet before putting their skills to the test. All dogs which pass receive a rosette for their graduation (entry is £2 per dog).

Huntingdon Town Council will host its music stage again, featuring local bands, while over in the arena there will be displays by Cambs Police Boxing Club, Huntingdon Ju Jitsu Club and Huntingdon Gym Club. There will also be dance, zumba and twirling displays.

The free event, which is sponsored by Urban & Civic and supported by The Hunts Post, will also include a variety of charities, such as Young Lives, Cambs Search & Rescue and Magpas, running stalls alongside plenty of traders. There will also be a bar and barbecue, HCR 104fm and funfair.

INFORMATION: The gala is organised by Huntingdon Rotary Club, Huntingdon Boat Club and Huntingdon Town Council and takes place from noon until 6pm at Riverside Park, Hartford Road, Huntingdon.
