WELLWORTH Players next week present a new staging of the Jules Verne classic Around the World in 80 Days.
WELLWORTH Players next week present a new staging of the Jules Verne classic Around the World in 80 Days.
A story known to many from the classic 1950s film starring David Niven, the Players’ writers, Mark Hebert and Neal Dench, have gone back to the original novel as their main source.
To cope with the challenges of adapting a travel story for the stage, and introducing so many characters and scenes, the company have come up with a number of innovations for the show.
Phileas Fogg, played by Mark Ullyett, is a the archetypal Englishman: cool and calm in every situation.
His savant, the Frenchman Passepartout, played by Lizzy Elliott, is a man continually exasperated by the Englishman’s cold indifference to almost everything, until he meets the beautiful Princess Ikea, played by Fran Mann.
Musical director Roger Billington has produced a sparkling score, using songs old and new, to ensure there is something for everyone.
