The Demon Barbers (pictured) are just one of the acts lined up to enterain at this year’s St Neots Folk Festival.

The 35th festival takes place on June 9/10/11 and kicks off with a ceilidh at The Priory Centre on the Friday night. A day of dance will be held on the Saturday during the day, with 16 sides dancing at various locations and then the Demon Barbers will perform that evening.

Friday: The Ceilidh starts at 8pm in the Great Hall at the Priory Centre, with The Hosepipe Band and Adam Hughes calling. The Hosepipe Band has enjoyed a long history and has played for dance groups and festivals around country for the last 23 years. You don’t need to be an experienced dancer to enjoy this evening of dances. There will also be a music and song session in The Cloisters at the same time and this is a chance to come and perform your party piece or simply listen to others playing or singing their songs and tunes.

SATURDAY: The Day of Dance on Saturday This will see the town filled with many traditional dance sides performing in various locations around the town from approximately 10.45am. These locations are the Market Square Piazza, The Pig N Falcon, The Coach House, The Chequers (Eynesbury) and the Cinema plaza. The evening performance from the Demon Barbers and Disco is likely to sell out quickly. Renowned for their no holds barred approach to their live shows The Demon Barbers return to the concert stage with a new repertoire, extra band members and a modern twist to their multi-award winning roadshow.

Since winning Best Live Act at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards The Demon Barbers have been immersed in the development of their folk and hip hop dance extravaganza. Following a number of successful UK tours, The Demon Barbers now bring some of the UK’s most exciting young clog, sword, hip hop and break dancers onto the concert stage to create the live folk music and dance spectacular of the year Disco at the Tavern , a collaboration with Grammy and Emmy award winners Donal Hodgson and Kipper, best known for their work with Sting.

Support comes from Sophie Crawford who is an actor musician with a strong folk background. She has a theatre company which performs folk stories with live music and she also runs a monthly poetry and music night at Housmans Radical bookshop in London which is becoming a great spot for traditional music. Doors open at 7.30pm and tickets are available on the door but the advice is to purchase beforehand.
