THE romance of the grand ballrooms of 19th-century Vienna is evoked in a show coming to Peterborough’s Key Theatre on Tuesday (January 25).

A Viennese Strauss Gala features Dame Kiri Te Kanawa’s protg Catrin Aur and British tenor Stephen John Davis, and treats audiences to a bygone age of elegant performance and soaring music.

As well as the trademark Strauss waltzes, the show showcases highlights from some of the great operettas of Strauss, Kalman and Lehar, including Die Fleidermaus, The Merry Widow, A Night in Venice and many more.

Performing alongside Catrin and Stephen are the experienced Peter Wilman and Australian Helen Sherman, and the four soloists are complemented by the European Orchestral Ensemble.

The production’s choreography and costumes have been carefully crafted to evoke the authentic feel of a Viennese evening, appealing to the romantic as much as the music aficionado.
