The performer, known as The Bard of Salford, made his name as the support act for punk bands like the Sex Pistols, the Buzzcocks and Siouxsie and the Banchees in the 1970’s.
His trademark is a combination of biting, satirical and very funny verse served up with rapid-fire, quick delivery which has seen him gain an army of fans and headline gigs across the country.
Described in The Telegraph as “the godfather of British performance poetry” Clarke has come to be recognised as one of England’s most important poets and performers.
Featuring heavily on Sky TV’s programming schedule, he presented a radio show on BBC 6 Music, made a cameo appearance in the Ian Curtis (from Joy Division) biopic Control and was recently cast in Plan B’s new film.
