Jamaican reggae superstar Shaggy has been announced as one of this year’s headline acts at the Strawberries & Creem Festival, alongside the godfather of grime, Wiley.

The two bill-toppers will take to the stage on June 17 at Haggis Farm, in Barton, joining more than 40 other artists across three stages.

A well-known fixture in the pop scene, Shaggy’s music career exploded after his 1993 hit Oh Carolina, leading him to release albums such as Hot Shot, in 2000, Lucky Day two years later and Clothes Drop in 2005.

But audiences are probably most excited to hear the musician’s biggest hits, including It Wasn’t Me, Boombastic and Angel.

Wiley is also scheduled to play at the festival – an artist often attributed with the birth of the grime genre, and his sound has arguably laid the foundations for the likes of Stormzy, Kano, Dizzee and Skepta.

The stellar line-up was announced earlier today via a live stream from space.

Will Young, founder of the festival, said: “We wanted to do something a bit unpredictable for the line-up launch. After seeing a lot of festivals ‘launch’ their line-ups this year, we were looking for unique ways to make the announcement stand out.”

“Luckily we’re in close proximity to one of the smartest institutions - Cambridge University - in the world who were on hand to help us out. Launching the line-up in space is about as big as we go and never been done before. It’s a proper line-up launch.”

The headliners follow last year’s successful performance by US rap star Nelly – no mean feat for a festival team whose average age is just 22-years-old.

Also on the bill this year will be So Solid Crew, Artful Dodger, ex-The Streets front man Mike Skinner, Gentleman’s Dub Club, AJ Tracey and J Hus.

Mr Young added: “To start with it [the festival] was just us, our circles of friends and a handful of like-minded people in a field - but three years down the line, we’re proud to say we’ve managed to create something special.

“It puts Cambridge on the map for another reason, providing a proper festival for young music fans in this part of the country.”

Tickets for the festival are £40 and can be booked at strawberriesandcreem.com.
