The stage adaptation of Lisa Genova’s best-selling novel about early onset Alzheimer’s disease, Still Alice, opens in Cambridge next week.
Sharon Small (Trust Me, The Inspector Lynley Mysteries) gives a spellbinding performance in this moving production that manages to find the positivity at the centre of an otherwise devastating illness.
Alice Howland is stubborn, clever and driven – a professional at the top of her game. But, diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 50, she is compelled to confront her new reality and attempts to remain true to the woman she has always been.
Small is a Scottish actress with extensive credits in film, radio, theatre and television. Her notable roles include detective sergeant Barbara Havers in The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, inspector Elisabeth Flynn in Law & Order: UK and Dr Brigitte Rayne in Trust Me opposite Jodie Whittaker.
Still Alice was written and self-published by Lisa Genova in 2007, and in 2014 was adapted into an independent film starring Julianne Moore. To date more than 2.6 million copies of the novel have been printed, and the film received critical acclaim and an Academy Award for Best Actress for Julianne
