St Neots mums award-winning cakes taken to London 2012

TWO mothers from St Neots have gone nutty over the Olympics – providing the world’s greatest athletes with a taste of Cambridgeshire.

Deb Arminger, 44, and Rachel Warwick, 43, run the award-winning cake-making business Nutty Tarts from their kitchens in Eynesbury and were selected by regional food-marketing group, Tastes of Anglia, to present Olympians from hundreds of nations with scrumptious samples.

The mums were chosen over hundreds of others from across Cambridgeshire for the honour but won through to represent the East of England in London, alongside Suffolk’s Munchy Seeds, Norfolk’s Riverbank Bakery and Thursday Cottage in Essex.

The mums baked chocolate brownies, flapjacks and shortbread for the special event, which were transported to the Olympic village by the pallet-load.

“It was amazing to be selected,” Ms Arminger, told The Hunts Post. “What sets our products apart from the rest is that we don’t bake in really large batches.

“We only bake 12 pieces at a time, which means they’re the next best thing to them being baked at home.”

Nutty Tarts was founded in 2003 by the pair who bake everything from their kitchens at home, using tried and tested recipes handed down over generations.

They have since gone on to win numerous food industry awards including The Hunts Post Food and Drink Awards and the Great Taste Awards.

With Waitrose, Tesco and Frosts Garden centre among their clients they hope to build upon their foray into the capital by securing new contracts

“We’re having talks after the Olympics with Aramark, who organised the catering for the games, about supplying places in London.

“It’s great because we haven’t managed to get into London up to now,” Ms Arminger added.

Tastes of Anglia is showcasing a range of different products every day in a specially designed British street located in the Olympic Village.
