St Neots Museum’s Heritage Open Day event is all about the Tudors.
‘Transforming Tudors’ takes place on Saturday at the museum in New Street and will feature a selection of Tudor experts from Kentwell Hall, in Suffolk, who will be bringing Tudor St Neots to life.
The event is set to take residents back to what it would have been like in the town in Tudor times and will include food to try, cake decorations to make, an archer with his bow and arrows, wool working and Tudor heraldry.
There will also be a small selection of local Tudor wills for people to read including Christine Cronker and Gerard Gunwell’s wills where you can find out what they left behind, including fur-lined gowns and sheep.
The title for the day is based around the transformation which took place in St Neots during the Tudor period when a decisive break with the old medieval world occurred.
Based around when Henry VIII dissolved the monasteries in the 1530s, the history of how the St Neots Benedictine priory closed will be illustrated throughout the event.
