Casting the Runes will feature two spooky stories on Friday (February 6). Two stories by Montague Rhodes James will be performed by Robert Lloyd Parry. James wrote his dark tales to perform to friends in the years leading up to the First World War. Nunkie Theatre Company will put on two of what are considered his very best, in a one-man show. In Casting the Runes the audience meets the Abbot of Lufford, Mr Karswell magic lanternist, historian of the occult, and scourge of the academic establishment. The story was the inspiration for the classic 1950s horror film Night of the Demon. It will be performed alongside one of what is said to be Jamess most neglected masterpieces: The Residence at Whitminster in which a shadow is cast over the precinct of a peaceful English church. Tickets £10.50 in advance from The Commemoration Hall, or £12 on the door.
