Some of the world’s greatest orchestras will perform at the Cambridge Music Festival which starts on Monday (November 9).
There will be some world-class concerts during the 10-day event which includes the BBC Concert Orchestra performing in the Organ Gala at King’s College Chapel on November 11 which will be the last opportunity to hear the historic organ before it is renovated as part of the Chapel’s 500th anniversary year.
The festival opens with a romantic programme by Sir András Schiff and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. Schiff will perform Schumann’s Piano Concerto. The concert begins and ends with Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture and ‘Scottish’ Symphony no.3.
Violin megastar Joshua Bell and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields perform Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev and Mozart on Thursday. Bell will perform Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, one of the most difficult violin concertos.
