AN outdoor production of a Shakespearean tale is to be presented in Buckden in Venetian carnival-style dress with the music of Mozart played on a harp.

This year the UK's longest-established outdoor touring Shakespeare company, Theatre Set-Up celebrate their 34th anniversary with a production of The Merchant of Venice.

The play is being performed in the Walled Knot Garden at Buckden Towers on Friday, 16 July at 7.30pm.

The play follows Bassanio, a young Venetian who has squandered his estate and who wishes to travel to Belmont to woo a beautiful heiress named Portia.

He approaches Antonio, a merchant of Venice to lend him the money to pursue his love interest.

Antonio's money is tied up overseas so he borrows the money from a Jew in return for a pound of flesh if it is not returned within a fixed time.

The scene is set for an intense drama in which Portia and her maid take on male disguises to solve all the problems and trick their wayward husbands.
