A singer and accordionist will treat the audience to a special outdoor show to mark the centenary of the First World War.
The Norris Museum in St Ives will play host to Mike Ruff for a performance of popular songs from the era – accompanied by commentary from historian Ann Wise – on Wednesday (September 3).
In addition, visitors can browse an exhibition titled ‘Music and the Great War’, which examines the impact of war on composers, plus the role of music on the front line, in prisoner of war camps and as a form of propaganda. The display panels will be complemented by a small selection of items relating to the bandsmen of the Hunts Cyclist Battalion, together with a gramophone and sheet music from the period. It will run until Sunday, September 28, during the museum’s normal opening hours from 10am to 4pm Monday to Saturday, and 1pm to 4pm on Sundays until the end of September.
Also on display in the museum are First World War items such as an anti-tank rifle and a Red Cross medal, a Home Front-inspired textile wall hanging and more.
