Scripted again by Oscar winners Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the pair hand directing duties for this sequel over to Mike Mitchell director of Trolls and The Spongebob Squarepants movie.

Chris Pratt and Elizabeth Banks return to voice Emmet and Lucy while Will Arnett again brings his amusingly gruff delivery to the voice of Lego Batman.

As with the first film, the script cleverly links the Lego world with the real world, we find an older Finn who is now allowed into the family basement to play with the vast collection of Lego, but only if he lets his little sister Bianca join in.

These events have repercussions for our Lego heroes, as the Duplo invaders from the Systar system begin to gain the upper hand. After being kidnapped, the team is taken to meet the enemy Queen Watevra Wa’Nabi voiced by Tiffany Haddish, who is planning an arranged marriage between herself and Batman.

The plot is as wonderfully ridiculous as it sounds.

Lord and Millers’ trademark childish humour permeates every part of the film, meaning you are never far away from another laugh.

The film is full of clever nods to other films, which will entertain older viewers, the Mad Max-esque desolate wasteland of the film’s opening is a particular highlight,

The relentlessly zany action and vibrant colours will fascinate the young children the film is aimed at.

Detractors may point to the fact that the film is very much in the same vein as its predecessor and doesn’t offer anything new, but why change a winning formula when it’s this entertaining.

Fresh takes on the original film’s hit song Everything is Awesome will raise a chortle while new tune Catchy Song will get stuck inside your head just like the lyrics claim.

With a sweet message to siblings about playing nicely together, The Lego Movie 2 is a joyous, adrenaline fuelled ride and one of those rare films which will amuse adults as much as it entertains youngsters.
