Details of Jubilee events in the Huntingdon area.

HUNTINGDON

THE town council has announced that its celebrations will take place over three days, starting on Saturday, June 2, at Bloomfield Park at noon where there will be two hours of music prior to a flypast of a Lancaster Bomber at 2.05pm.

A Big Jubilee Lunch is being held at the Medway Centre on Sunday, June 3, from 2pm. The free lunch will take the style of a street party and will include entertainment and a raffle. Pick up you ticket from the Medway Centre, Medway Road, Monday to Friday, 9am until 4pm.

And on the Monday the focus switches back to Bloomfield Park where from 7pm there will be stalls and, at 9.45pm, a procession of councillors and dignitaries will walk from the park, along Grammar School Walk to the High Street and then on to Castle Hill for the lighting of the Jubilee Beacon at 10.15pm.

This will be followed by a fireworks display.

CHURCHES – St Mary’s, All Saints the Methodist church – will be collecting signatures to thank Her Majesty for her dedication and want as many people as possible to get involved.

The Big Jubilee Thank You, which the Church of England is hosting throughout the country and will present to the Queen in July, throughout the Jubilee weekend.

And as Her Majesty is head of the church, they will also have on display some of the treasures of the Church of England in Huntingdon, including archive material, the church plate and the churches’ connections with royalty.

Residents can also attend the Big Jubilee celebration service in St Mary’s Church on Friday, June 1 and share in a Big Lunch picnic in the gardens of St Mary’s.

There will be entertainment and exhibitions in both Anglican and Methodist churches throughout the weekend.

GODMANCHESTER

ISLAND Hall is an official Cambridgeshire Beacon Site for the Jubilee Celebrations and will be holding a fundraising event leading up to the lighting of the beacon on Monday evening.

Christopher and Lady Linda Vane Percy are hosting the evening between 8.30pm and 11.30pm when there will be a hog roast and one complimentary drink included in the ticket price of �15.50. Under 16s �8.

All fundraising goes to the St Mary’s Church roof appeal.

ALCONBURY WESTON

THE village green will be the site for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations on Sunday, June 3, between 3pm and 8pm.

Villagers are being encouraged to bring a plate of food and join in the old-fashioned style street party where there will be games, races and music.

SAWTRY

A PICNIC in the Park fun day at St Judith’s Field runs from 2pm to 6pm on Saturday, June 2, when guests can expect some family-friendly entertainment – including a mass sing-along. Guests will need to take their own food, chairs and picnic rugs before settling down to watch a dance display (2.45pm), meet the accordionist and balloon sculpturer who will be walking around the field, try out some sport at one of the taster sessions, or get involved with the garden games.

Over in the shelter everyone will be able to hang his or her own congratulations card to the Queen – all of which will be posted to Her Majesty after the event.

A brass band will play for an hour before a piper (5pm-6pm) will lead a sing-song, ending with the national anthem and Land of Hope and Glory.
