Flora and fauna fans are invited to explore beautiful gardens around Huntingdonshire.

As a part of the National Open Garden Scheme dozens of gardens will be opened to the public throughout July.

The two-acre garden of Wytchwood, in Owl End, Great Stukeley, will swing open the garden gate for people to enjoy on Saturday, from 1.30-5.30pm.

With borders of perennials, annuals and shrubs, lawns, fish pond and a larger wildlife pond, the garden also features one acre for wildlife.

Visitors will also be able to enjoy cream teas and homemade cakes.

The picturesque villages of Abbots Ripton and Wennington are also hosting an open gardens weekend on July 8 and 9.

Over the two villages 12 gardens will offer an interesting variety to explore including cottage style, vegetable growing, specimen trees and shrubs, traditional borders and a host of landscaping ideas.

The hub of the event is Abbots Ripton Village School where there is ample car parking available.

A ‘passport’ for the event, which runs from 12-5pm on each day, costs £6 per adult with children free.

There will also be a host of live music, plant sales and teas and cakes.

The peaceful garden of Ferrar House, in Little Gidding, with uninterrupted views across meadows and farmland will open on July 16, from 10am to 5pm.

To enjoy more of what the district has to offer Godmanchester Community Academy is hosting a traditional country summer fete on July 5.

The afternoon, from 3.15-5.30pm, will offer traditional fun and games including guess the weight of the beer barrel, welly wanging and hook a duck.

Entry is free to the event and all are invited.
