Huntingdon Racecourse has unveiled its plans for the third annual Winter Ladies’ Day next month.

Jockey sisters Gina and Bridget Andrews who both hail from East Anglia, have been appointed as ambassadors ahead of one of the biggest racing fixtures of the year on Saturday, November 21.

Fitting in with a day when fashion is very much to the fore, the first Huntingdon tweed, from Royal Equestrian and Suffolk-based designer Annabel Brocks, will be unveiled.

On the day, there will be a fashion show – at which the new tweed will feature – live music and a shopping marquee, perfect for choosing those early Christmas gifts.

On the track, the most valuable race is the Lady Riders’ Handicap Hurdle – and it’s hoped that Bridget and Gina Andrews will be riding in the £10,000 contest which takes place over a distance of just under two miles.

Bridget and Gina Andrews, who are both champion point-to-point riders, have each won races at Huntingdon Racecourse. Bridget, who is now a conditional jockey, rides principally for Midlands trainer Dan Skelton.

Sian Williams, manager of Huntingdon Racecourse, said: “The final months of the year are the busiest time at Huntingdon Racecourse as we build-up to December and Betfred Peterborough Chase day and our Boxing Day meeting.

“The Winter Ladies’ Day is very much a fixture in the sporting calendar now, and we are thrilled to announce that two of our local jockeys, Bridget and Gina Andrews, have agreed to become our ambassadors for the event.

“It will also be tremendously exciting to launch Huntingdon’s first tweed from Suffolk designer Annabel Brocks which I am sure will create a lot of interest in Huntingdonshire.”

Tickets for the main enclosure are on sale for Winter Ladies’ Day at http://huntingdon.thejockeyclub.co.uk and on the ticket hotline on 0844 579 3007, starting from £18 in advance (£20 on the day). Accompanied children aged 17 years and under are admitted free of charge.

For those spectators wishing to make their visit to the racecourse extra special, there is a choice of Lentons Package, including a pint of beer or a glass of wine, a race-day programme and a hot home-made pie, which is £27 in advance, or Hurdles Package (roast of the day instead of the pie), which is £31 in advance. Restaurants bookings are £70.

Racing is between noon and 3.25pm, with gates open from 10am.
