THE BROADWAY and West End smash hit Avenue Q is making its way to Cambridge as part of its first ever UK tour.

The Tony award-winning musical is one of the most prolific successes of theatre land in recent years, described by British theatre critic Mark Shenton as a “sensationally silly and funny musical.”

Based loosely on the American TV hit Sesame Street, the show is awash with a cast of super-talented, energetic actors and puppets, all of whom work together effortlessly to produce what Christopher Hart of the Sunday Times called “the best musical of the decade.”

The story follows Princeton, a bright-eyed college graduate, who is new to the area – namely Avenue Q in downtown New York.

It charts his journey as he desperately tries to follow his dreams and discover his ever-elusive purpose in life, whilst tackling issues every teenager has to deal with – dating, racism and sexuality amongst other things.

Likened to the Broadway hit musical Rent, because of it’s setting and willingness to address gritty, contemporary issues, Avenue Q is a far more sunny and funny production, packed full of witty, zippy songs.

With over 2,500 performances under it’s belt and members of the original cast on the UK tour, Sky News reported “Q stands for quite simply the best show in town.

“Go now and go again and again.”
