The Tony award-winning musical is one of the most prolific successes of theatre land in recent years, described by British theatre critic Mark Shenton as a “sensationally silly and funny musical.”
Based loosely on the American TV hit Sesame Street, the show is awash with a cast of super-talented, energetic actors and puppets, all of whom work together effortlessly to produce what Christopher Hart of the Sunday Times called “the best musical of the decade.”
The story follows Princeton, a bright-eyed college graduate, who is new to the area – namely Avenue Q in downtown New York.
It charts his journey as he desperately tries to follow his dreams and discover his ever-elusive purpose in life, whilst tackling issues every teenager has to deal with – dating, racism and sexuality amongst other things.
Likened to the Broadway hit musical Rent, because of it’s setting and willingness to address gritty, contemporary issues, Avenue Q is a far more sunny and funny production, packed full of witty, zippy songs.
