The first wave of acts have been announced for this year’s Big Weekend in Cambridge which returns to Parker’s Piece from July 8 to 10.

Starting the weekend with a huge firework display, the event will see the likes of Boney M and Dario G perform on Friday, before The Selecter, and The Dowsing Sound Collective hit the stage on Saturday.

Also performing on July 9 will be the Desmond Dekker Band the Aces and The Treatment – a rock n’ roll group based in Cambridge – with even more acts yet to be confirmed.

The weekend, which this year has been given the theme, ‘Health and Wellbeing’, will also have a range of activities on offer, like face painting, science and sports workshops, storytelling, food stalls, and even a pop-up art gallery.

The free event will be brought to a close with a day of world music and the Cambridge Mela – on July 10 from 12pm to 8pm - celebrating diversity in the city.
