Both Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels return to reprise their roles as Harry Dunne and Lloyd Christmas in Dumb and Dumber To.

An entirely new storyline sees Harry reconnect with who he thinks are his birth parents and travel across the country to track down Penny, the daughter he never knew he had, in the hope she is a donor kidney match.

Penny’s biological mother (Kathleen Turner) gives the boys her address after it turns out she was adopted by a brilliant scientist, though nature proves the stronger force over nurture as she appears to have inherited Harry’s intellect.

This is all off the back of Lloyd being released from a mental institution after a 20-year stint…

Considerable efforts are made to create unique comedic situations for Lloyd and Harry to obliviously ruin, with not too much repetition from the first film, save for the much-welcomed return of Billy and his “pretty bird”.

That said, the success of the first film was largely due to the uniqueness of the characters themselves, and this time around, no matter how many new jokes are thrown in, we know what to expect.

While there’s nothing specifically to fault, the pace doesn’t grip you, with several noticeable lulls and, in perhaps the biggest let-down, the dog van does not feature at all, despite its prime position on the film’s posters.
