AN air spectacular is taking place in Little Gransden later this month in a bid to raise thousands of pounds for the BBC Children in Need appeal.

The Little Gransden Air Show is being held on Sunday, August 29 at the village’s aerodrome located on the Gamlingay to Little Gransden Road, south-east of St Neots.

Now in its 18th year the hugely popular event boasts superb aerobatics displays by British aerobatic champion, Mark Jefferies featuring daredevil loops and rolls.

Also in the air will be a Royal Air Force Battle of Britain Memorial Flight full display and a fly-past by a Tucano from RAF Linton-on-Ouse.

On the ground there will be three Mustang P-51s used during the Second World War to act as fighter escorts for the B-17s as they travelled across Europe. There will also be on display the wooden Hurricane used as a prop in the 1960s Battle of Britain film.

In addition to this visitors will be able to see the engine of a rare Second World War Hawker Hurricane in public for the first time. The Hurricane MK1 is being restored by the Cambridge Bomber and Fighter Squad in time to de displayed at the show.

Other attractions include a display of more than 200 historic aircraft and classic cars, a craft fair and trade stalls, a large-scale model aircraft and refreshments and a bar.

Last year the air show had its most successful year, raising more than 40,000 and attracting 5,000 people.

The main organiser, Dave Poile MBE, told The Hunts Post he was hoping for the same success this year.

Mr Poile, who works in the control room at Cambridgeshire police headquarters in Hinchingbrooke, said: “It would be nice to raise as much as last year. If the weather is on our side then I can’t see why we wouldn’t hit that target again or exceed it. It’s for such a great cause and it’s a superb day out for all the family.”

INFORMATION: Gates open from 10am to 6pm. Admission is 40 for a family (two adults and two children), 15 for adults, 7 for children (aged five to 16), 10 for OAPs and free for youngsters under five years. To find out more, phone 07730 091132 or visit www.littlegransdenairshow.co.uk
