OLYMPIC swimmer Mark Foster will officially open the Abbotsley village fete this weekend.

The Olympian and star of Strictly Come Dancing will perform the honours on Saturday (July 17) at the village playing fields.

The fete forms the opening of Abbotsley’s annual Feast Week, with other events including the popular Scarecrow Festival, which this year has the theme History: Fact or Fiction.

Attractions at the fete, which runs from 2pm to 5pm, include a variety of games and stalls including Robins Reach Archery, Bedfordshire Beekeepers, alpacas from Little Gransden, Time After Time Singing Quartet and a Pimms tent.

Other Feast Week events include cream teas at the village hall, a pet show and a barn dance.

The week’s festivities close on July 25, with jazz in the afternoon at The Eight Bells pub. Proceeds will go to the upkeep of Abbotsley Village Hall.
