Deep Purple keyboard player Don Airey has agreed to perform in a special charity performance at this summer’s Cambridge Rock Festival.
Money raised from all ticket sales at the event on August 3 will be donated to the Addenbrooke’s Hospital Charitable Trust.
This year’s festival at Haggis Farm Polo Club in Barton, near Newmarket, from August 4-7, will now include the extra date which will see some top artists performing for hospital charity.
The evening will be headlined by Don Airey & Friends and will see support from Fresh Cream - a band led by Jack Bruce’s son Malcolm and includes Will Johns, nephew of Eric Clapton. The bill will be completed by Suffolk based folk band The Broadside Boys.
The five-day festivities continue through to Sunday night with a total of 100 bands on three undercover stages, including Focus, Jim Cregan & Co (Rod Stewart’s guitarist and co-songwriter), Carl Palmer’s ELP Legacy, Mostly Autumn, Hazel O’Connor, Curved Air, Purson, Pink Fairies, Atomic Rooster, Son Of Man + Deke Leonard, The Pure Floyd Show and more on the main stage, plus a dedicated blues stage and an acoustic/alternative stage.
Tickets for the charity event, which can be purchased independently of the main festival are £20, but anyone with a CRF day or four-day ticket will be entitled to a discount.
INFO: See the www.cambridgerockfestival website for details. Camping is available adjacent to the CRF site.
