EXTRAORDINARY Chinese talk show ‘Interviews Before Execution’ sees host Ding Yu interview prisoners condemned on death row in the weeks, days and sometimes hours before their executions.
Ding Yu isn’t your average fame-hungry pundit, going to great lengths to track-down the condemned’s family members and pass on messages while also taking care to highlight taboo issues such as homosexuality in each of her cases.
Using clips from the show, interviews with judges and never-before seen footage of China’s death row, BBC One investigates the country’s unusual approach to capitol punishment and questions the future of a system in which 55 crimes carry the death penalty
