A Come and Try Sailing event is taking place at Paxton Lakes Sailing Club on May 12.

The Push the Boat Out session, from 11am till 4pm, is open to people who have never sailed before and also those who are more competent and would be comfortable using a club dinghy.

The event, which is free, is run in conjunction with the Royal Yatching Association’s Push The Boat Out campaign, which encourages people to take up sailing.

Roger Churchill, commodore of the sailing club, said: “This is an opportunity for mums, dads group leaders and rangers who sailed when they were youngsters to relive the dream, have fun and sail a dinghy. Those sailing skills never leave you. Those young adults who have an existing RYA Level 1 or better can refine their skills in a Pico or Topper dinghy,”

The club will provide buoyancy aids and a safety boat, crewed by qualified club members, will be on-hand. Visitors will also be able to enjoy free tea and coffee and juice and the 1st Paxton Scouts are providing barbecue food for a small charge.
