UPCOMING rock band The Bookhouse Boys are returning to Cambridge for the final date of their 2011 tour.

The group, which has evolved from a gritty bar band to an impressive eight-piece orchestral ensemble, will be showcasing new material from their stunning new album Tales to be Told.

The 10-track offering, mixed by American recording legend Joe Barresi who has worked with the likes of Queens of the Stone Age and Fu Manchu, hints at the violent-streak of the debut album with tracks like Guns Like Drums and Cold Crazy Eyes, but also includes some awesomely produced tracks of a more sensitive nature such as To Forgive and Fever Lullaby.

Described by The Times as an album which “combines surf guitar, spaghetti western, southern gospel and smart, bleak songs in the vein of Nick Cave” this album is a bold, no-holes-barred journey into a musical minefield of experimentation.

The authenticity of using orchestral instruments including vibraphone, trumpets and timpani’s in a live gig cannot be underestimated, and surprisingly complement the more familiar sound of caustic guitars and frantic rallies of percussion.

INFORMATION: The Bookhouse Boys play at The Haymakers in Cambridge on Saturday, June 4. For details contact 01223 312899
