Exams are over, barbecues are a regular occurrence and once again, amazing talent is coming through the HCR104fm studio doors.
This month I would like to shine the spotlight on the wonderful Matt Hammond.
After completing his studies in popular music at Anglia Ruskin University last year, Matt is continuing to develop his unique percussive guitar style and he is inspired by artists such as Jon Gomm and Newton Faulkner.
Armed with a new guitar, Matt played live in the studio alongside some recorded tracks and teased us with promises of new music.
When hearing Matt, you may be fooled into thinking you can hear more than one musician, but it is actually just him and his guitar creating a wall of harmonies and haunting sounds.
His track Monolith, a personal favourite of mine, featured in Spotlights ‘Song of the Year 2017’ competition and I am sure when the competition returns for 2018 he will make an appearance again.
With a very busy schedule, you can be sure to catch Matt at a variety of places over the next few months- check him out on Facebook: @matthammondofficial for more details. You can also listen to the podcast of his interview at: www.hcrfm.co.uk/on-air/podcasts.
Join me and the Spotlight team on Fridays 8pm-10pm every week bringing you news and interviews from local music.
Students can get involved in Student Zone by applying on the HCR104fm website.
