COMPETITORS from Huntingdonshire Athletics Club travelled to London for the U20 National Junior League Final. The Hunts AC representatives were travelling as part of the Cambridgeshire side managed by Nigel Faben. Despite the competition being aimed at athletes under 20, many of the Team Cambridgeshire athletes were 17 and under and performed admirably. One of the top performers on the day was Hunts AC member Gian Zicchi, who won the 100m. Many athletes recorded personal best performances and many secured top-three finishes - despite the difference in age. The fine performance by Team Cambridgeshire saw them comfortably win the event and it means the county will return to the Southern NJL Premier League next year. Meanwhile, a teenage hurdler from St Ives has been traversing the country for his sport - and collecting medals along the way. Christian Roberts, 16, of Hunts AC, won the U17 men's hurdles titles at both 400m and 100m in the northern inter-counties championships. The championships, held in Hull, saw Roberts turn in impressive performances on a windy day, recording times of 57.50 seconds and 14.09 seconds to clinch the titles. After his success in Humberside, Roberts returned closer to home for the Peterborough City Games, where he won the U17 100m hurdles for the third year in a row. Earlier, Roberts had competed in the AAA National Championships in Sheffield, where he claimed sixth position in the U17 400m final in a personal best 56.09 seconds. Roberts also tasted success in Luton, where he was unlucky to miss out in a photo finish in the 100m sprint, finishing second in a time of 11.70 seconds.
