JUNIOR RUGBY

St Ives U10s

SAINTS took on four sides at the Northampton Saints tournament at the weekend, winning two, and drawing and losing one.

Sam Hirons' try couldn't stop his side slipping to a 25-5 defeat against a pacy Northampton Old Scouts team while tries from Sam Kennedy and Hirons earned Saints a 10-10 draw with Banbury.

Northampton Men's Own U10 were swept aside 20-10 thanks to two scores each from Hirons and Tyler Elstub. It was Elstub who was the star of the show in Saints' final group game, scoring a hat-trick as the U10s defeated Kettering 15-5, leaving Saints second in their group and just short of a semi-final place.

St Ives U15s

AN impressive performance gave Saints a 27-8 victory at Peterborough.

Andrew Howard scored the visitors' first try before doubling his tally shortly afterwards and kicking the conversion. A penalty from the same player gave Saints a 15-3 half-time lead.

Two second-half tries from Matt Bligh and another conversion from Howard completed the scoring in an excellent team performance, delighting manager Andy Britton.

St Neots U11s

TWO close home fixtures for Saints U11 resulted in one win and one defeat, marking a promising start to their home campaign.

Kettering were first up and despite Saints matching their power in the pack, some effective attacking play from Kettering earned them a 21-0 victory.

Saints newcomers Liam Scotney and Garth Allen impressed for the home side, both making excellent contributions.

St Ives were the visitors in the second fixture and St Neots edged an exciting game 19-17.

Ben Tyler put the home side ahead before centre Alex Purdon crossed the line for his first try for St Neots.

The visitors staged a revival to come back and led 17-12, but a dash for the line from Cameron Brown and Adam Williams' second conversion of the game won it for St Neots.

The visitors applied late pressure but could not secure the win. George Peacock was named St Neots' man of the match.
