AMBER Butterfield may only be 10 but she is already a British record breaking trick water skier.

The rising star from Kimbolton has just been presented with a silver plate and three certificates in recognition of her talents after breaking the under-10s British trick water-skiing record three times in 2011.

Between 2007 and 2010 the record stood at 980 points but Butterfield smashed this in 2010 when she achieved 1080 points. Last year she raised the record three times and it now stands at 1690 points.

Amazingly, the youngster also gained second place in the British Ladies Division 2 table last year while competing against skiers of all ages.

Paul Hammersley, her coach at South Lake Ski School in Sandy said: “Amber has done very well this year.

“She puts in a lot of hard work, especially in the winter in the freezing cold, and does so without complaint and with the full support of her parents.

“She is a good promise for the future and already looks set to be selected for the under-12 and possibly the under-14 British Development Squad.”

Trick water-skiing assesses an athletes’ ability to perform tricks during two 20-second passes which are scored by judges. Each trick has a set score and the more difficult the trick the higher its value.Butterfield, who attends Kimbolton Preparatory School, has been water-skiing since the age of four and skis throughout the year.

She is now preparing to move up an age category, to the under-12s, when the season starts again in May.

She told The Hunts Post: “I like water-skiing because it’s fun and exciting, even though it’s quite unusual.

“Some of the tricks that I do are fairly easy but others are more challenging.

“My ambition is to do a flip and eventually to get into the British Water Skiing team.”
