Swimmers from the Huntingdon Piranhas opened their year in top form by winning their first trophy of the season. The club beat off stiff competition from Rushden, Bedford, Newport Pagnell and two home sides to win the Wellingborough Swim Shop Trophy Gala. In the first time the team has competed at the event, the Piranhas won 10 of the 50 races and finished second in a further nine, setting 21 new personal best times in the process. Taking winning points on the night were Kristen Chadband, Daniel Coles, Kimberley Willoughby, Ryan Skeels, Dominic Everett, George Girvan, Madison Mayers-Brandrith, Michael Blundell and Remmick Sargianopoulos. The team also won five of 18 relays and 19 of the club's swimmers set personal bests. Head coach John Richards said: "This is a great start to the season. All our swimmers put in the maximum effort which can be seen in the 21 new personal best times set on the night. We are looking forward to an excellent 2008.
