HINCHINGBROOKE School pupil and England Women’s U15 striker Carla Humphrey is aiming for the top after pulling on the Three Lions jersey once again last week.

Humphrey, 14, who lives in Brampton, was part of the squad that went down to a narrow 2-1 defeat against Holland in Leicester on Monday evening.

Although an unused substitute on the night, she is now an integral part of the national U15 set-up, with two full caps to her name, both coming from the bench in 3-3 and 1-1 draws against the Dutch on foreign soil almost exactly a year ago.

Humphrey, who has been with Arsenal Ladies since the age of nine, did manage to find the net in a practice game for England against Republic of Ireland back in August.

She also set up the first goal with an overhead bicycle kick in her side’s 2-2 draw with Holland in another training match last Tuesday.

And former Brampton Spartans sharp-shooter Carla says she wants to emulate one of her idols - Arsenal and England Women’s captain Faye White - and make it all the way to the top.

She said: “I work hard at my game so, when you get called up for England, it just makes all that hard worth pay off.

“Scoring against Ireland was, along with singing the national anthem before the Holland games, one of the best moments of my life so far.

“I’ve looked up to Faye since I was little and she was assistant coach at the last England camp I went to.

“And having her there just inspired me more.”
