ST IVES II travelled to Wellingborough where they beat the home side despite missing some key players on Saturday. Captain Mark Smy had to undertake a reshuffle and was a man short but the Ives still began with a domineering performance.

Prop Jim Lewsam quickly sent the ball forward from the fly-half position to full-back Kenny Metcalfe who scored in the corner. Metcalfe had to convert the try as there were no place kickers, but he failed. Scrum half Danny Bluff then weaved past the hosts for an unconverted try to give the Saints a convincing lead at half time.

Wellingborough took advantage of a tiring St Ives after the interval and got their first try. Ives quickly made their mark on the game again though with Smy chipping to Guy Rogers who outpaced the hosts for an unconverted try. OG exerted pressure from the restart and soon scored under the posts and converted the try to make the scores close.

St Ives powered forward from the restart and put together some good play to end the game. Jim Lewisham was fast and strong to get over the OG tryline and he then got past the opposition fly-half to score by the posts. His resulting free kick went well wide but the win had already been secured.

St Ives I home to Old Northamptonian III was cancelled at 0-0 after 15 minutes due to an opposition back getting a terrible break.
