Washington’s future is something to talk about

After taking his season’s tally to 52 goals in 50 games, the club’s young goal machine and its management team of Hall and Warren Everdell will sit down with officials and other ‘interested parties’.

“Yes, I think it is common knowledge that scouts have been watching him for some time and a meeting will take place this week with a couple of interested parties – though we can’t name them because we don’t want things to go wrong,” Hall told The Hunts Post.

The former Needingworth Colts player, who worked his way through the youth system after his team switched to St Ives, has terrorised defenders in the Premier Division of the United Counties League all season – and it would be no surprise to see him playing his football several levels higher next season, maybe even in the Football League.

The striker earned himself another fan on Monday when he scored his hat-trick against the much-fancied King’s Lynn in the final of the UCL Cup at Yaxley. King’s Lynn’s manager Gary Setchell said: “We knew about the lad Washington. He’s obviously an outstanding player. He’s probably the best I’ve seen at this level, or the level above, for a long time – and he’s scored three goals.

“He was the difference between the two teams and I expect him to go on to bigger and better things. I’ll be very surprised if he’s at this level, or even the level above, next season. I know there were a lot of scouts looking at him and he did himself no harm.

“There are no complaints from me, they deserved the victory. They’ve got the outstanding player and obviously we haven’t.”

Talking about Washington’s goals against the Linnets, Hall picked out the first as something special. “It was beautiful,” he told The Hunts Post. “That kind of goal doesn’t belong in Step 5 football...”

Indeed. If you score 52 goals in 50 games, you are going to attract admirers. It just remains to be seen if those admirers will bring Washington his dream move - and St Ives a close-season windfall.
