EATON Socon Cricket Club has completed the first of a three-phase project to improve the club’s facilities.

An extension to the pavilion was officially opened by the club’s president John Wright and councillor Gordon Thorpe, Mayor of St Neots.

The three-phase development, which will eventually include an umpire’s changing room and a new visitors’ dressing room, was made possible by former player Tom Walker who generously left the club 5,000 in his will after his death last year.

Hard work by his family, friends and others has seen the money well used and the club have named the extension in his honour.

Following the opening, the cricket club presented Tom Walker Snr with a cheque for 1,000 in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust.

To complete the day, a fundraising cricket match was held between an Eaton Socon XI and Cambridge Tigers Korfball Club, another of Walker’s former sports clubs, along with raffle, silent auction and barbecue.
