PAUL Fielding scored a superb second place in the solo veteran category to place as top finisher for St Ives CC at Sunday’s final round of the Thetford Enduro Winter Series at Mayday Farm.

He averaged 28 minutes for his five laps of the woodland circuit and was hotly pursued by versatile team mate Lee Desborough, who came home in sixth place, lapping consistently in under 30 minutes.

All of the team were competing in the two-hour event on the six-mile course which, although fast in places, was also extremely boggy in some of the challenging technical sections.

Further down the track, Andrew Wylde and Alan Moules battled together, with Wylde just finishing in front.

Both riders averaged 35 minutes per lap, but Wylde slowed on his last lap to 36 minutes, not spotting the late charge from Moules, which nearly cost him one finishing position.

Also riding was experienced mountain biker Ian Hirst, finishing strongly in 41st place, and Leo Falkner, who got off to a flying start lapping in 33 minutes only to suffer a mechanical troubles on his second lap and retiring disappointed.
