East Men's Hockey League St Neots 4 Camb Univ II 3 A CRUNCH match at the top of the table left Saints celebrating extending their lead over the University to five points. The fit and disciplined students put up an excellent fight, but St Neots proved themselves more than up to the task. However, the visitors did take a two-goal lead, the first from a penalty corner follow-up, as Saints were caught by the high-tempo game from the University. Saints slowly edged their way back into the game and Pete Jarvis reduced the deficit - on hand to follow in Allan Knox's deflected effort. It was Knox who drew the scores level five minutes before half-time, driving home from 10 yards after a free hit ran loose. The visitors were the happier to hear the half-time whistle and St Neots' domination continued with another Knox goal, this time from a penalty corner. The University rallied and confusion in the Saints defence allowed Jack Yelland to pull the scores level, left unmarked seven yards out. The home side responded positively to the set-back in a tense finale and a scrambled winner duly materialised. Jarvis's speed down the wing saw him pick out Knox, whose powerful shot was saved. Wayne Tunnah sprinted in to force the ball over the line and earn Saints all three crucial points. Saints face another important game at the weekend when third placed Cambridge Nomads are the visitors to St Neots Community College.
