Tucker Gardner League Division Two table-toppers St Ives saw their six-match winning run brought to a sudden halt by local rivals Huntingdon & District yesterday.
Runs might have been in short supply at St Peters Road, but drama certainly wasn’t as the leaders went down to a first defeat since the opening day of the season.
Ryan Withers’ side slipped up 34 runs after being dismissed for just 52 in pursuit of Huntingdon & District’s own modest offering of 86.
Only four batsman made it into double-figures all afternoon with St Ives man Tom McCarthy having the dubious honour of being the game’s top-scorer with just 19.
But he eventually became the penultimate player to fall as Huntingdon & District’s overseas ace Dario Cummins wrapped up victory with two wickets from his first two balls after Gary Mills had done much of the damage with 5-24.
Sheraz Ali (18), Craig Leigh (12) and Andrew Wright (12) were the biggest batting contributors for Huntingdon & District while Shaun Asplin and Faisal Khaliq both bagged three wickets for a St Ives side who remain top of the table.
Warboys went down to Ufford Park by five wickets as their tally of 110 proved inadequate.
Kimbolton didn’t even make it into action was their trip to Cambridge Granta 2nds was cancelled due to rain – a decision which did not sit well with the local club.
