Brampton Winter Pairs GOING into the third round of this year's winter pairs series, there were just two points separating the top three partnerships. This week's match was held on Raveley Drain which was once again in poor condition, due to the river carrying a lot of extra flood water, making fishing difficult for most. The match was won by Tony Last, who was fishing on peg five and managed to tempt a tench of 4.5lb along with a few small skimmers to weigh in with 5lb. Second place went to Steve Sharp on peg two who struggled to put 3lb 10oz of roach and skimmers on to the scales while third place went to Paul Irons who had 3lb 5oz. This set of results made the series points scores very interesting as the best performing pair on the day were Paul Irons and Kevin Medlock, who both managed second in there respective sections. The pair made up two points on the series leaders Colin Oliver and Mick Sonnet as well as a point on Tony Last and Chris Saunders, making these three pairings equal on points with one match to go. Raveley Sweepstake THIS match was also fished on Sunday with the pegs nearest to the bridge being used, and just like the Brampton match, fishing was hard for most part. However, three anglers fishing the left hand side of the bridge where the bleak had shoaled up, the winner was young Josh Pace who managed to temp more than 400 of the tiny specimens to put an impressive 15lb 8oz onto the scales. Fishing next to Josh was Kevin Peacock who had 9lb 8oz third went to Dean Lack who had 7lb 10oz. ACA Pike Qualifier THE Old Nene at Floods Ferry was the venue for this qualifier and with nine anglers fishing they managed to catch 34 pike between them for a total weight of 206lb. The day's winner was Paul Lenton who tempted out 10 pike for 50lb 11oz. Sitting on the next peg was Bob Tykot who had nine for 48lb 2oz and third place went to Paul Keepin who had six pike for 46lb 6oz - which included the days biggest specimen of 16lb 6oz. Stanjay Open LAST Saturday saw eight anglers fishing on Cromwell Lake and the day's most successful angler was venue expert Ricky Ashwell on peg 13. Ashwell hair-rigged corn on the feeder to tempt carp for 18lb 8oz. Graham Goodwin from peg 35 pole fished corn to tempt three carp for 15lb 6oz for second place with Dave Silsby on peg nine fishing 9lb 9oz - again mostly of carp. Benwick Angling Club BENWICK'S anglers fished the town stretch on Sunday with Ted Feeby finding two tench plus some silver fish for a match-winning 12lb 10oz, second place went to Tony Ingram who also found two tench plus bits for 10lb 12oz. Third place went to Kevin Gaunt who had 5lb 13oz. Lawn Farm Tuesday Open TWENTY-two anglers faced the new year's wind and rain on Willow Lake last Tuesday. Keith West came out in front with 16lb 4oz fishing from peg 28. West found carp and chubb to secure his victory from second placed George Joyce III. Joyce III had to contend with the cold driving wind and rain in his face all day but manfully stuck to the task to put 12lb 11oz on to the scales, including some carp. Third place was Andy Pollard who had 5lb 6oz. Some interesting news is coming out of Lawn Farm with the revelation that the match lake was netted just before Christmas and over a ton of roach were removed. The lake will be re-stocked later this month with carp.
