An inspired century from Martin Heginbotham gave Houghton and Wyton the perfect platform to take a 40-run win over Huntingdonshire rivals Alconbury.
The Hunts County Division 2 sides met at Houghton on Saturday and it was the hosts who batted first after winning the toss.
And with the conditions hot and dry, the stage was set for opening duo Mike Hudson (28) and Heginbotham (135) to pile up the runs.
The latter managed 12 fours and nine sixes in a virtuoso knock that saw his side to 241 at the close of the innings.
Alconbury’s Fiaz Mirza led the way with the ball as he claimed 4-19 in a blistering four-over spell. Sid Davis (34) and Richard Ewing (26) made a solid start in Alconbury’s reply, but the visitors failed to kick on despite a number of promising starts.
In fact, top scorer for Alconbury was number 10 Charlie Nelson, who hit 38.
A haul of 3-28 for Houghton’s Peter Waughman, and two wickets apiece for Jerry Wood, Ryan Drage and Joseph Purse saw Alconbury bowled out for 201.

Victory moved Houghton into fifth in the league table, while Alconbury slipped into the bottom two.
Two more Huntingdonshire sides clashed in the same division, as Buckden put on a batting masterclass to overcome Godmanchester 2nds by 195 runs.
Buckden were sent in to bat by their hosts and swiftly set about building a big total. Opener Alex Marsh made 98, while unbeaten pair Jonathan Mews (100) and
Laurie Marsh (105) both made triple figures as the visitors posted a mighty 343-2 at the close.
Kevin Clement and Jamie Rice picked up a wicket apiece for the hosts.
Where Buckden had excelled, Godmanchester found life much tougher going with the bat and both openers fell cheaply. Douglas Bentley (33) and Glen McIntyre (28) added some solidity in the middle order for Godmanchester, but support was
hard to come by and regular wickets meant they were unable to build the momentum needed to challenge.
Laurie Marsh took 3-23 to lead the way with the ball for Buckden, with two wickets apiece for Hayley Brown, Meera Patel, and Reece Sibley. The hosts were all out for 148, slipping third from bottom in the process, while Buckden climbed into fourthplace.
